  • By Armsfree Ajanaku: Taking future elections beyond the ordinary By Armsfree Ajanaku: Taking future elections beyond the ordinary
It took Attahiru Jega, Professor of Political Science, guts and determination to move elections in Nigeria beyond the fictitious numbers politicians allocate to themselves. In those days, politicians determine their own scores at elections, hence the ‘landslide’ victories of yore. But when Jega came, between 2010 and 2015, the activist Professor found one effective way around the antics of election riggers when he introduced the Smart Card Reader (SCR) just before the 2015 General Election. BY Tom Hamburger and Ellen Nakashima/ WASHINGTONPOST.COM A group of leading GOP national security experts — including former homeland security secretary Tom Ridge — urged congressional Republicans on Monday to demand President Trump concede the election and immediately begin the transition to the incoming Biden administration. “President Trump’s refusal to permit the presidential transition poses significant risks to our national security, at a time when the U.S. confronts a global pandemic and faces serious threats from global adversaries, terrorist groups, and other forces,” said a statement signed by more than 100 GOP luminaries. The signers included Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor who served as homeland security secretary under President George W. Bush, former CIA director Michael Hayden and John D. Negroponte, who served as director of national intelligence. The message called on “Republican leaders — especially those in Congress — to publicly demand that President Trump cease his anti-democratic assault on the integrity of the presidential election.” Read the statement from 100-plus former national security officials Trump has refused to acknowledge his defeat to Democrat Joe Biden and continues to wage a clamorous, unsuccessful bid to overturn the election’s outcome in several key states that turned the race in Biden’s…

  • Second recession: Buhari has failed Nigeria – PDP Business and Economy Second recession: Buhari has failed Nigeria – PDP
By Kazeem Ugbodaga / PM NEWS The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to accept their failure and allow competent, transparent and honest hands to effectively manage the economy. The party said this is the only way to save the nation from an imminent economic collapse. The PDP, in a statement issued by Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary, asserted that the report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) that the economy has plunged into another recession under the APC confirmed its stand that the Buhari Presidency and the APC lacked the competence and integrity to run a national economy. “The report shows that the Buhari administration and the APC have been lying to Nigerians with false performance claims when they know that they have, in a space of five years, wrecked and plundered our economy, which was rated as one of the fastest growing economies of the world, when they took over from the PDP. “Indeed, President Buhari will be the first President, in our history, to score a hat-trick, in plunging his nation into economic recession, both as military and civilian leader. “The economic recession we face today is…
