Nigeria could be about to offer Harry Redknapp a route back into management as the Super Eagles consider their options

Harry Redknapp is being considered as the next manager of Nigeria.

Current Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr sees his contract expire at the end of the month and there is serious doubt over the German's future.

It has led the Nigerian hierarchy to review their options meaning Redknapp could be set for a return to management.

A Super Eagles source told the Star : “The feeling is Harry Redknapp will be coming to manage Nigeria soon.’’

The African nation and the former Tottenham boss have previously held discussions about the role.

That was back in 2016 but negotiations broke down, however they are confident of completing a deal this time round.

The vast majority of Nigeria's players ply their trade in Europe and are well known.

Friendlies are also held in London on a regular basis given the amount of Nigerians playing in the Premier League which could prove advantageous in discussions.

Redknapp has never tried his hand at international management despite being heavily linked with the England job back in 2012.

He was favourite to replace Fabio Capello who had resigned just months before that summer's European Championships.

The FA ultimately opted for Roy Hodgson despite Redknapp guiding Tottenham to the Champions League quarter-finals 12 months earlier.

His hugely successful spell in north London came to an end in 2012.

Since then he has taken charge of QPR and Birmingham - helping the former achieve promotion from the second tier back in 2014.

His last job was at St Andrews but he was shown the door in September 2017 and subsequently said there was "every chance" it was his final job in football.

During his career Redknapp has also led Bournemouth, West Ham, Portsmouth and Southampton.

The England captain thought he had scored the equaliser at St Mary’s only to have the goal chalked off for offside and injuring himself in the process

Tottenham suffered a potentially disastrous blow to their plans on New Year’s Day as Harry Kane limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury during their Premier League game at Southampton.

With around a quarter of an hour to play at St Mary’s and Jose Mourinho’s side trailing 1-0, Kane side-footed a tidy finish in for what looked like the equaliser – but the linesman had his flag immediately up for offside.

Kane felt his left hamstring straight away, and was promptly replaced by Erik Lamela.

Sitting eighth in the Premier League, and four points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, the transfer window once again is likely to take the centre stage for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solkjaer has reportedly come up with a list of five attacking targets for the January window as the Red Devils boss is looking to bolster the squad.

Red Bull Salzburg hitman Erling Braut Haaland is top of the priority list while Everton winger Richarlison is also being targeted.

According to reports from the Mirror, Solkjaer could be left frustrated in his attempt to lure Richarlison to Old Trafford. Carlo Ancelotti, the new Toffees boss, sees the £70million-rated Richarlison as central to his plans for the club, and will have the final say on transfer dealings.

Since switching to Merseyside on a big-money transfer from Watford, Richarlison has established himself as an important player for his club and country.

The Brazilian started off as a wide left-winger but has showcased his versatility while playing as a centre forward as well. The 22-year-old has scored six goals and provided two assists for the Toffees in the Premier League so far.

Ancelotti asserted that taking Everton to the Champions League is the long-term goal and objective, and certainly, it won’t be achieved by selling his key players. Thereby, it is unlikely that United would be able to land Richarlison in January and only crazy money can soften Everton’s stance on the Brazilian.

Everton began their new era under Ancelotti with a hard-fought win against Burnley in their previous game. The Toffees will face Newcastle United next at St James’ Park on Saturday in the Premier League.

ITALIAN SERIE A: Juvenus 3 - 1 Udinese

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Juventus beat Udinese to go top of Serie A - for a few hours at least.

The Portuguese blasted in a crisp shot from the edge of the area for a fourth goalscoring game in a row.

He then smashed in a first-time shot from Gonzalo Higuain's through ball before Leonardo Bonucci headed home to make it 3-0 before the break.

Ronaldo almost grabbed his first Serie A hat-trick as he hit the post, before Ignacio Pussetto's late consolation.

Juve keeper Gianluigi Buffon made his 646th Serie A appearance, one short of Paolo Maldini's all-time record. It was Buffon's 700th league appearance including Serie B and the French top flight.

Inter Milan will go back to the top if they avoid defeat at Fiorentina (19:45 GMT).

Erling Braut Haaland has emerged as the talk of the town around Europe after his heroics with RB Salzburg at the UEFA Champions League, where he’s incidentally also the current top-scorer with six goals from only three games!

While Salzburg have been placed in a difficult group against defending champions Liverpool and Serie A giants Napoli, they’ve shown a lot of fight by nearly taking points from both of them.

Haaland has featured heavily in their success, netting in all three games and even silencing the Anfield crowd at one point with an equalizer. The Norwegian’s goal-scoring phenomenon isn’t being disregarded, as many clubs are on the hunt for his services.

As per the Guardian, Manchester United and Juventus stand just a bit ahead of the queue involving nearly 20 clubs monitoring Haaland’s progress at Salzburg this season.

The Red Devils have particularly been linked with the teenager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had worked with him at Molde last season.

The Norwegian gaffer was asked about a potential move in winter or later, but refused to comment on the young striker. United are in the hunt for a striker after being unable to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer and finding themselves with limited options upfront.

Haaland had himself been asked about a potential move to Manchester, but discarded a potential move by stating how bored he was with constant links to the Red Devils.

There have been talks about United’s history with his dad Alf-Inge Haaland- who was a Manchester City player- potentially ending any chances of a deal between the two. But Alf-Inge has himself reiterated that his past problems won’t be an issue for a potential deal.

But The Red Devils face hefty competition for the teenage sensation, with Juventus being on his heels to sign up a top-quality striker for the future.

They already spent big to seal the deal on Matthijs De Ligt in the summer, but are desperate for a proper goal-scorer as Gonzalo Higuain’s replacement.

Salzburg are looking to make a hefty profit on the Norwegian having signed him for around €9 million in January. They’re aiming to sell him for around €60 million in the summer if their hand is truly forced.

Napoli apparently tried getting a deal done recently by contacting Haaland’s representatives but were dismissed as Salzburg would not consider selling him before the end of the season.

Apart from United and Juventus, there are a number of elite clubs to have scouted the young striker. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal have all sent scouts to analyze his performances.

It looks like a wild chase for Haaland is guaranteed next summer, as United will really have to up the ante in order to secure his services for the future.

After having an extremely disappointing start to the season which sees them sit just two points above the relegation zone, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Manchester United are planning future transfers to save them from this mess.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had explained beforehand that their problems aren’t going to be solved anytime soon and that a longer process will be needed for them to get back amongst the top.

United are looking towards the next few transfer windows to remove the deadwood and bring in players in line with Solskjaer’s philosophy to promote young British players through their system.

It seems like they’ve set their sights on one particular player, as James Maddison is apparently on their radar to be signed sometime in the next summer transfer window.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are allegedly optimistic at getting the England International signed during the next summer transfer window.

Maddison is obviously a crucial part of Leicester City’s attack and has been impressive with his work on the bigger occasions.

He scored against Liverpool at Anfield and won the game against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season, even earning his national call-up from Gareth Southgate as a reason.

According to MEN, United are confident that Maddison will accept their offer to sign for the Red Devils as he’s a boyhood United fan and in great terms with former team-mate Harry Maguire.

At 23 years of age, Maddison is seen at being the perfect age for making the right impact at United and has all the values which is appreciated by the Norwegian gaffer.

United apparently want players who are respectful and will not hesitate to sign autographs for supporters when wearing the club jacket. However, they want players with the arrogance to overwhelm oppositions when they’re playing for the club.

That being said, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has no intentions of letting go off Maddison anytime soon and recently reiterated the club for being the perfect place for him to “flourish”.

He stated, “He’s a player that we very much want to keep here. He’s a very talented young player that has a lot of development to make over the coming years.”

“He recognises this is a great place for him to be, and gives him that opportunity to flourish and develop.”, the former Liverpool manager also explained.

Maddison is contracted with Leicester till 2023 after signing for the Foxes last season in a £20 million deal from Norwich City.

He’s already scored two and assisted two goals in the Premier League this season. As his valuation keeps soaring with his rising performance-level, United know they’ll have to spend big to attain his services next season.

As per a report from German outlet Bild, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have emerged as contenders in the race to sign Real Betis star man Giovani Lo Celso.

Short-lived PSG stint

Argentine attacking midfielder Lo Celso made the move to Europe in the summer of 2016, when he joined French powerhouse PSG from Rosario Central.

After struggling for game-time during his debut campaign at the Parc des Princes, Lo Celso went on to enjoy a largely-impressive season in 2017/18, when he managed 33 appearances in Ligue 1, 18 of which came as starts.

However, despite having been short on options in midfield, PSG allowed the gifted South American to depart the French capital last summer, with Lo Celso having joined La Liga outfit Real Betis on loan with option to buy.

Betis standout

And the 23-year-old has since gone on to showcase exactly why he was so highly-regarded in his home country of Argentina during the early years of his career.

Lo Celso took his performances to another level altogether at the Benito Villamarín Stadium this past season.

Across all competitions, the Rosario youth product racked up 16 goals and 5 assists, proving an absolutely integral member of now-former Betis boss Quique Setién’s squad.

Spurs bound?

And Lo Celso’s stellar form has certainly not gone unnoticed across Europe.

Premier League giants Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been named as keen admirers of the midfielder’s talents this summer.

Spurs, though, have been by far the most persistently-linked.

The reliable Gianluca Di Marzio last month even went as far as to suggest that the north Londoners had tabled a massive 70 million Euro bid for Lo Celso:

Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, meanwhile, went a step further two weeks ago, in claiming that an agreement between Spurs and Betis was ‘80% complete’.

Bayern enter race

As per the aforementioned update courtesy of SportBild this evening, though, a fresh contender has emerged to rival Tottenham in the race for Lo Celso’s signature.

The outfit in question are German giants Bayern Munich.

As per Bild’s report, the Bundesliga champions are currently engaged in negotiations with Betis.

It remains unclear, however, just how serious Bayern’s interest actually is:

The Antoine Griezmann transfer saga feels like it has been going on for an age.

Back on May 14th, Griezmann released a video announcing he would be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.

Atletico’s president then claimed in June that he knew Griezmann would be moving to Barcelona this summer:

“I am very certain where Antoine will play, we have known since March.

“It is in Barcelona.” As quoted by Goal.

Despite all of this, Griezmann is still currently an Atletico Madrid player.

In total, Griezmann has featured in 257 games across all competitions for Atletico, in which he has scored 133 and assisted 50.

The Frenchman has also helped Atletico win the Europe League, Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

According to The Sun, Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has signed new one-year deal at the club with an option of a 12-month extension.

The Emirates Stadium outfit are yet to make an official announcement, but one is expected soon.

It was rumoured that Monreal was ready to quit Arsenal this summer and head back to La Liga, with Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao keen on the former Malaga left-back, but The Sun claims he penned fresh terms with the North Londoners earlier this year, and he will now head into his seventh year at the club as he is still very much part of manager Unai Emery’s plans.

The 33-year-old featured in 22 league games last term, and is expected to provide Kieran Tierney with competition and cover should Arsenal secure the signing of the Scotland international from Celtic this summer.

Monreal is expected to remain on his £65,000-a-week wages going forward, and having such experienced defender within his ranks for a little while will come as a huge boost for Emery.
