The Federal Government on Tuesday presented the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu before Federal High Court in Abuja.

Lawyer to the FG, S. M. Labaran, said Kanu was arrested through intelligence and collaborative efforts of security agencies.

Labaran was silent on where and how Kanu was arrested.

Following Labaran’s ex-parte application, Justice Binta Nyako ordered that Kanu, who was brought to court in handcuffs and hooded before the court’s sitting, be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Justice Nyako granted an accelerated hearing by bringing the charge pending against him from the earlier adjourned date of October 20 to July 26 and 27.

At the conclusion of proceedings, the DSS operatives who brought him to court, sneaked him away, using the judge’s access stairs.

Earlier at a press briefing, Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, disclosed that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on Sunday June 27, 2021.

At the joint briefing with heads of DSS and police, Malami said Kanu would be returned to court to continue with his trial.

AC Milan are close to re-signing Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid on a season-long loan with the option to buy, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano reports.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan with the Rossoneri, registering seven goals and four assists from 39 appearances in all competitions.

The Spaniard was in-and-out of the league plans but was a regular starter in the final weeks of the season as the club finished in the top four.

The Rossoneri are now close to finalising another temporary deal for the Manchester City graduate with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Los Blancos are understood to want a buy-back option as part of the transfer.

Sportslens view:

The Rossoneri are back in the Champions League after a seven-year wait, and they will be aiming to keep the core of the squad together.

Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu are set to leave on free transfers, but they are in a good position concerning other players.

Diaz was influential in the final phase of last season, and he could play a more dominant role with Calhanoglu on his way out of the club.

The Spain Under-21 international showed good promise for the Rossoneri last term with his ability to play in the number 10 role or out wide.

Milan have also made a similar transfer proposal for Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot, but the Red Devils are not keen on doing business.

United have been unsuccessful in signing Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier. Dalot could get the chance to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back role next term.

For sonorous voiced singer, Aituaje ‘Waje’ Iruobe, the celebration of Father’s Day across the globe is not all about gender.

As the world celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, June 20, 2021, the single mum declared herself a father to her daughter saying the day isn’t all about the male gender.

“Fatherhood isn’t about gender, it is about roles, fatherhood isn’t about donating sperm, it is about roles, motherhood isn’t about gender, it is about roles, I know people (men) who are much better mothers than mothers themselves. So darling I am not dragging anything, I am only proud that I can share these experiences with my daughter and that God gave me the capacity to do both,” noted Waje.

Waje, who was criticized by followers on Instagram for her stand, insisted that she stands by her words saying she plays the role of a father and mother at the same time.

A follower had asked Waje to desist from making such inference but the singer and songwriter noted that she’s proud to celebrate Father’s Day because she plays both roles.

Waje noted that being a father has nothing to do with gender but responsibility.

She added: “I respect your opinions but I don’t need your advice as to what or how I see my role. So let’s celebrate our wins and keep it moving, after all when I celebrated you fathers before posting my daughter and I and wishing myself happy Father’s Day none of you responded to in plain English keep it moving.”

A fresh update on the ongoing and at times laughable managerial search at Tottenham Hotspur has come to the fore over the last 24 hours.

Gattuso, Fonseca & more

Ongoings on the white half of North London have of course taken centre stage in the media over the last couple of weeks.

This comes amid the Lilywhites’ ongoing efforts to appoint a new manager ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Since the decision was made to dismiss Jose Mourinho back in April, a whole host of tacticians from across the continent have been tipped to take up the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

To this point, however, the efforts of Daniel Levy and co. have proven fruitless.

Both Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca, for example, have looked near locks to take up the reins at Spurs at one point or another since the beginning of the month.

A combination of indecision and lack of financial backing, however, ultimately saw deals for both collapse.

Gennaro Gattuso, meanwhile, was the latest name tipped to bring an end to the managerial hunt in the English capital earlier this week, but negotiations with the Italian, too, eventually came to nothing.

In turn, with the options continuing to thin out, and pre-season ahead of the 2021/22 campaign just weeks from getting underway, those in a position of power at Tottenham will need to act fast, if they hope to avoid becoming a legitimate laughing stock across the European football landscape.

As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, though, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici indeed already appear to have another potential option for the club’s bench lined up.

The tactician in question? Ernesto Valverde.

It is suggested that the Spurs hierarchy are now back in contact with a number of candidates, chief among them former Barcelona boss Valverde, for whom an ‘approach’ has been made.

Also still on the wishlist in North London are both Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United have made an improved bid to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, Sky Sport reports.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Englishman last summer, but a deal failed to materialise as they were put off by the £108 million valuation.

Sancho could be available for a lesser fee this time around, but United are yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga outfit for his services.

United recently made an opening offer of £67m plus add-ons which was rejected, and they have now made an improved bid of more than £75m.

The offer remains short of Dortmund’s valuation, but there is ‘a willingness from all parties’ to get the deal done with Sancho’s contract expiring in June 2023.

Sportslens view:

Sancho was in sublime form for Dortmund this past season, registering 16 goals and 20 assists from 38 appearances across all competitions.

He started the campaign slowly amid the speculation over his future but picked up his form during the back end of the season.

As per Ruhr Nachrichten, Dortmund want an initial £81.6m (€95m) for the versatile attacker, and the asking price is non-negotiable.

It is suggested that they would like to sort out the player’s future by mid-July, and won’t entertain another extended transfer saga this summer.

United are still regarded as the ‘most realistic‘ destination for Sancho. They may have to make a renewed bid closer to the price tag to convince Dortmund.

Sancho would provide an instant upgrade for United in the problematic right wing position, where they have lacked a regular contributor of goals and assists.

Germany got their Euro 2020 campaign back on track and blew Group F wide open with a 4-2 romp against Portugal in Munich on Saturday.

France’s 1-1 draw with Hungary earlier in Budapest and Germany’s win mean there is all to play for in Wednesday’s final group games when the Germans host Hungary and the French meet holders Portugal.

After Cristiano Ronaldo claimed his 107th international goal, leaving him two short of Ali Daei’s all-time record, to give Portugal an early lead, the Germans roared back with four unanswered goals.

German pressure forced own goals by Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro to put the hosts 2-1 up at half-time.

A Kai Havertz goal underlined Germany’s dominance before left-back Robin Gosens capped his man-of-the-match display by heading in Germany’s fourth goal to add to his two assists.

Portugal hit back when Diogo Jota tapped in Ronaldo’s hooked volley to make it 4-2 with 23 minutes left.

Germany continued their domination of Portugal, who they have now beaten five consecutive times at World Cup or European Championship finals since Euro 2000.

Germany created a huge amount of chances compared to Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat by France, while Portugal lacked the composure of their 3-0 win over Hungary the same day.

The match began at a frantic pace amid sweltering conditions in the Bavarian capital.

The Germans had a goal disallowed after five minutes when VAR spotted Serge Gnabry was offside as Gosens hit a spectacular volley.

However, sloppy Germany defending saw Portugal take the lead.

With only Gosens and Havertz defending at a German corner, Bernardo Silva started a counter-attack, then picked out Jota in the area with a world-class pass.

The Liverpool forward squared to Ronaldo, who sprinted into the box to slot the ball past Germany captain Manuel Neuer with less than 15 minutes gone.

It was Ronaldo’s first goal against Germany to extend his record tally to 12 goals at five European Championship finals.

However, two own goals inside four minutes turned the game.

Germany drew level when another Gosens volley was flicked towards the net by Havertz, with Dias getting the final touch as the ball flew past Rui Patricio on 35 minutes.

The second goal soon followed when Guerreiro turned Kimmich’s cross into his own net while trying to stop the ball reaching the on-rushing German forwards.

Gosens caused Portugal problems all afternoon on the left flank.

His low cross was tapped in by Havertz six minutes after the break.

The Atalanta player then capped a superb display by powering in a close-range header from Kimmich’s cross on the hour mark.

German fans sang their approval, with “Oh, wie ist das schoen” (oh, is that beautiful) echoing around the Allianz Arena.

Gosens was substituted soon after with his name being chanted.

Portugal pulled a goal back when Guerreiro’s free-kick was hooked back by Ronaldo and turned in by Jota.

Germany nearly claimed a late fifth goal when Havertz’s replacement Leon Goretzka fired over after another surging attack by the hosts.

This is the first time Portugal have conceded four goals since losing 4-0 to Germany at the 2014 World Cup.

Nigeria’s Boko Haram jihadist group has confirmed the death of its chief Abubakar Shekau, who sources say died during infighting with a rival Islamic State-allied faction, according to a video message from its presumed new commander.

In the short video in Arabic, top Boko Haram commander Bakura Modu, also known as Sahaba, urged his faction’s commanders to remain loyal despite the loss of their historic commander.

Shekau’s death was seen a major shift in Nigeria’s conflict, though Islamic State in West Africa Province or ISWAP has recently emerged as the dominant force in the more than decade-long Islamist insurgency in the country’s northeast.

The video, provided to AFP by a source close to Boko Haram and confirmed to be Bakura Modu by another local source, illustrates that jihadist infighting is far from over in Africa’s most populous nation.

Shekau, who gained notoriety after kidnapping nearly 300 schoolgirls in 2014, killed himself last month rather than surrender after IS-allied rivals attacked his base camp in Nigeria’s northeast Borno state, security sources said.

In an audio, ISWAP commander Abu Musab Al-Barnawi had already claimed Shekau killed himself while on the run from ISWAP fighters.

The undated Boko Haram video shows Bakura flanked by scores of armed fighters in formation as he addresses the camera, in what is traditionally a jihadist group’s way of presenting a new leader.

“Commanders of Jama’atu Ahlu Sunna Lidda’awati Wal Jihad. Be steadfast and draw your swords, spreading your jihad, decapitating the enemy,” he said, using the official name of Shekau’s Boko Haram faction also known as JAS.

“Don’t allow what befalls you these days to weaken your resolve on the jihad your are waging, because Allah has not forsaken your efforts.”

He also urges Boko Haram commanders to reject ISWAP commander Barnawi.

Soon after the initial reports of Shekau’s death last month, infighting between Nigeria’s two rival jihadist factions intensified. ISWAP fighters moved against Boko Haram commanders who refused to surrender and join their ranks, intelligence sources have said.

The two factions have skirmished in the past since ISWAP split from Boko Haram in 2016, objecting to Shekau’s indiscriminate targeting of Muslim civilians and use of women suicide bombers.

Bakura’s faction is one of the Boko Haram elements operating in the Lake Chad area where they have access to porous borders with Chad and Niger.

ISWAP fighters have taken over Shekau’s stronghold in the Sambisa forest in their bid for consolidation, analysts and security sources have said.

But they said Barnawi would face potential resistance from hardline, pro-Shekau factions along Nigeria’s border regions.

More than 40,000 people have been killed and over two million displaced from their homes in fighting since the conflict in northeastern Nigeria began in 2009.
