DCP Abba Kyari, who occupied the post, was suspended at the weekend following his alleged involvement in the sharing of $1.1m loot by internet fraudstar Hushpuppi, according to an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

BBNaija Shine Ya Eye housemate Liquorose has advised fellow housemate Beatrice to be strong.

Following the revelation of Pere and Maria as the wildcards, many of the housemates expressed anger at Beatrice for giving the impression she was one of the wildcards.

Last night, during the live show, the host Ebuka commanded the real Wildcards to rise to their feet before he exposed them.

Other housemates thought Beatrice was getting ready to stand up, but the real wildcards, Maria and Pere, did instead.

When confronted by other contestants, Beatrice said she was just adjusting her jacket and wasn’t preparing to stand up.

Angel, Arin, and Saga were not pleased by her excuse.

“Fool. You just want to sabotage the task,” Arin yelled.

Motivating her, Liquorose encouraged Beatrice to be strong.

“Nobody has the right to make you sad about yourself. Don’t always feel like people are coming for you,” she said.

Beatrice tendered an apology to the housemate as she gave Arin and Saga a hug.

Hushpuppi: Police begin Kyari probe

By Gbenga Omokhunu, Abuja and Tajudeen Adebanjo/ THE NATION

The Police have begun probe of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abba Kyari, for his alleged involvement in internet fraud perpetuated by Rahman Abba (aka Hushpuppi).

The commencement of the investigation followed the Police Service Commission’s (PSC ) approval of a four-man special committee set up by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali to review the allegations against Kyari by the United States Government.

PSC also approved Alkali’s recommendation for the suspension of the DCP pending the outcome of the probe. The suspension commenced on Saturday.

Kyari, who heads the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigerian Police Force, has since denied any involvement in the fraud as contained in documents presented to a U.S court by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The IGP had in a letter to the PSC dated July 31, explained that his request for Kyari’s suspension was is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the NPF.

The letter partly reads: “The suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for the NPF Special Investigation Panel to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against DCP Abba Kyari without interference.

“The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer.”

Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba said the four-member panel probing the suspended officer is headed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Joseph Egbunike.

He however, did not give the names of the three other SIP members in his statement.

Mba’s statement reads: ”The SIP, comprising four senior police officers, is headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).

“The SIP, inter alia, is to undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari by the US Government as contained in relevant documents that have been availed the NPF by the FBI.

“The SIP is also to obtain a detailed representation of DCP Abba Kyari to all the allegations leveled against him, conduct further investigations as it deems fit, and submit recommendations to guide further actions by the Force Leadership on the matter.”

The IGP, said Mba, reaffirmed the commitment of the NPF to the rule of law and absolute respect for the rights and privileges of Kyari throughout the period of the investigations.

“The PSC however, directed the IGP yesterday to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary action.

“The commission’s decision was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the IGP today (Sunday, August 1),” was signed by the commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, and Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a Justice of the Supreme Court and PSC Commissioner.”

Popular social media celebrity Ismail Mustapha aka Mompha, has explained how the ‘stubbornness’ of his embattled friend, Abbas Ramon popularly known as Hushpuppi got the latter into trouble.

Mompha said this during an Instagram Live with Daddy freeze over the weekend.

The Nation reports Hushpuppi was arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in June 2020 alongside 11 of his associates over hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud and identity theft allegations.

He has pleaded guilty in the United States and, according to court documents, narrated how he bribed suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari following the decorated policeman’s alleged role in arresting and jailing – at Hushpuppi’s request – his fraud rival Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute.

Mompha said: “What fucked him (Hushpuppi) up was that he didn’t listen to me. He is stubborn hence his arrest and trial in the U.S.

“People will accuse you wrongly, what about me that brought Hushpuppi from Malaysia? wetin my eye no see?

”The day Hush was arrested I got a lot of calls, Baba see what you have caused, you made them arrest this guy he was competing with, even on that day because of the pressure people were putting on my page,” Mompha said.

“I had to remove my picture (after Hushpuppi’s arrest), EFCC had to call me directly to post my picture back because it will look as if maybe I was involved, many people will just come to my page and say you are next, FBI is coming for you, is that how it works?

“My case with EFCC was because someone felt the need to punish a big boy like me, all because of BDC’. Nigerians on social media love to gossip and wish bad luck for rich people. And it’s not my fault that I come from a rich home, I have even hustled all my life.

“And it is not my fault that I come from a rich home. Now everybody showing off is a fraud. In this life, you will face trial, just pray to overcome it,”

Pere and Maria, the two wildcards in the BBNaija Shine Ya Eye house, have survived the first live eviction show and have officially begun competing for the grand prize with other housemates.

Ebuka took on the first BBNaija Shine Ya Eye live eviction show Sunday night but there were no goodbyes – just surprises!

After the ladies and gentlemen of the house settled in on Sunday, August 1, Biggie threw in the second twist of the season.

The mischievous Biggie told the housemates that two from among them were wildcards and they had a week to figure them out.

If they successfully did this, the two wildcard housemates would be evicted immediately.

Failure to do so meant they get to remain in the competition and battle it out for the grand prize.

The housemates investigated, questioned and tried hard to figure out who they were all week long.

The viewers were not left out in the guessing game until Thursday, July 29, when Biggie revealed that Maria and Pere were the wildcards.

During their Diary Room sessions on Sunday afternoon, majority of the housemates put forward Liquorose and Jaypaul as their prime suspects, to the amusement of viewers.

However, the cat was let out of the bag when Ebuka asked the wildcards – Maria and Pere – to reveal themselves.

This left the housemates surprised but impressed at how well they concealed their identities.

The game has now shifted gears as both Maria and Pere are officially in the game to win.

Ebuka revealed that both of them will have exclusive nomination powers on Monday night when the housemates exercise their nomination rights for the first time this season.

Surprise French champions Lille beat Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions Trophy season curtain raiser in balmy Tel Aviv on Sunday.

Portuguese midfielder Xeka scored the winner just before half-time with an unstoppable strike from outside the penalty area that left PSG stopper Keylor Navas no chance.

“We showed who we are and we deserve this trophy,” said Xeka.

“A few months after the league title we can all celebrate this new one. Work pays, and that’s how we intend to continue.”

Having won the previous eight Champions Trophy matches, PSG arrived in Tel Aviv Saturday without Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel di Maria as well as new star signings Spanish defender Sergio Ramos and Italian ‘keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

A positive test for Covid-19 ruled out PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

There was a lively debut for Georginio Wijnaldum signed from Liverpool on a free transfer and who came on with twenty minutes to play.

PSG had their chances and Mauro Icardi had the ball in the Lille goal on 76 minutes, twisting a deft clip from close range, but what would have been a peach of an equaliser was ruled off side.

Lille brought a strong side and took the game to the Parisians, who they pipped to the French title last season by a single point in a tense run-in.

New Lille coach Jocelyn Gourvennec thanked his predecessor Christophe Galtier for his work and said the new title was partly his too.

“PSG play an amazing technical game, but our lads were ready athletically and our collective play was tight. The team knows what it’s doing,” he said.

The match was the first domestic football aired in France by streaming giant Amazon.

Some 27,500 fans were on hand to see the game at Bloomfield Stadium, home of Hapoel and Maccabi Tel Aviv, on a baking evening with regular water breaks for players with the temperature at 29C (84F.)

Israeli billionaire Sylvan Adams brought the French season-opener to Israel.

The entrepreneur who runs the cycling outfit Israel Start-Up Nation said the host nation would emerge a winner from staging the contest.

Doctors under the aegis of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have unanimously agreed to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, August 2, 2021. This is coming at a very critical time when the country is currently experiencing a rise in COVID-19 infections; the signal of a third wave of the pandemic

The association however reached the decision after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which was attended by over 50 of its members across the country. They noted that the government has failed to honour and implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) it signed with the doctors over 100 days ago. It particularly demanded the immediate withdrawal of the circular removing House Officers from the scheme of service, which was not implemented.

The President of the NARD, Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, who made these known in a statement, also noted that despite efforts by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, in ensuring that the Medical Residency Training Funds is captured in the supplementary budget, the Federal Government has failed to disburse the funds to members.

“The NEC noted the suspension of the total indefinite strike action one hundred and thirteen (113) days ago due to government promises as entailed in the Memorandum of Actions (MOA) signed at the instance of the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige.

BBNaija Shine Ya Eye housemate Niyi has accused Nini of attempting to dominate the House and playing the victim card.

Niyi said this while discussing with Beatrice and Yerins on Sunday.

Niyi insinuated that Nini acts cunning by trying to form a clique in the House but with the wrong set of people.

“She feels like there is a space that she needs to dominate and she’s trying to dominate it in a very rude way but the people she’s trying to dominate it with when they come for her she will now play victim.

“When you have low self esteem but you want to use arrogance to cover it up. I noticed it a long time ago,” he said.
