Nollywood actress, Juliet Njemanze has said that she feels ashamed to say that she’s an actress because of the stigma that has been attached to actresses.
Juliet also said that the poor pay actors get is another thing that discourages her about the acting profession.
The Kano State-bred actress made this known in an interview with Potpourri, while sharing a bit on her journey in the industry.
She said, “Every industry has its own problem but I will say the thing that turns me off is the stigma attached to actresses in Nollywood. The stigma is crazy that sometimes I feel ashamed to tell someone I’m an actress because people look at you as a prostitute.
They believe you must have slept with directors and producers to get to where you are. Acting for me is my life, my career, it’s my everything and I love it with passion but people’s impression about the job is really discouraging. Another thing that turns me off is the poor pay. The actors don’t get enough pay for their work except you are a superstar.”
“I would say my Nollywood journey has been a cool ride full of fun. I really went through a lot starting out in the industry because I put all my focus in it as it was the only thing I was doing at the time. It was really tough financially, most of the time I work for people and I don’t get paid. I was almost discouraged and depressed at the beginning of my career.
The lesson I would say I have learnt from this industry is that no one can make you, only you and God can make You. A lot of producers and directors will promise to help you and make you a star, they will promise you heaven and earth just to get something from you. The most important lesson I learnt is to pray for grace of God and don’t depend on any producer or director to get you to the next level, you can do that yourself,” she says
Juliet is the kind of actress who would take on any challenge that does not put her faith and moral at stake.
“I won’t take a role that will make me say negative things against God. If it’s in the script, they will have to take that part out. My relationship with my God is more important than my career. And secondly, I can’t go nude in a movie, not even in Hollywood with a mask. I don’t think it’s an option for me to go nude,” she added.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has reacted to allegations that she was bribed after she questioned the Lekki Toll Gate shootings.
The movie star in a tweet last week, asked that the family members of those who reportedly died during the Lekki toll gate incident, to come forward, and she asserted that if there were no deaths, people should stop with the sensationalization.
The mother of 4 wrote on Twitter ”If People died during the Lekki Toll Assault, let their people speak out please and if there were No deaths then enough with the sensationalization because it does not remove from the Crime that happened. PEACEFUL PROTESTERS WERE ATTACKED. WHY? BY WHOM! #EndImpunityinNigeria”.
The now-deleted tweet angered some Nigerians and they blasted her for using ”if” and being insensitive to those who lost someone during the protest. Some insinuated that she has been compromised by the government.
Omotola has now cleared the air, saying she has never received bribe or a dime from the government.
“I am not somebody you can lure with money. I have never in my life been bribed by government, I have never collected government dime” she said.

Popular Nigerian actor Mr Ibu has recounted his near-death experience after he was poisoned by his staff whom he alleged was paid by his kinsmen to murder him.
The comic actor who spoke with Nigize TV attributed his still being alive to God as he talks about how his stomach grew so big he could not see his legs.
According to the Nollywood star, he was placed on medication that helped with the swelling of his stomach.
Talking about how he could have been dead and become another story, he says his big stomach is as a result of the incident and used to be bigger than what it is now.
He said:
“I don’t take alcohol up till now. Some people say I don’t take Alcohol yet my stomach is big, The belly is an idiot. It was after they gave me that poison. It was bigger than this before. If you had seen it, it was like a foam. I took medicine and it began to come down. Before I wasn’t able to see my legs.
They took me to Nnewi, saying we had a show. They held me there and beat me up. They beat me and then inserted poison in my mouth and ran away, leaving me there. It was my boys and dancers that came and carried me home. It was in Enugu that I woke up. God said no, you are not going yet.” he said
Mr Ibu
He added:
“Here in my office, they brought the first poison, I took it. I was falling around and nobody came to ask. Even the workers did not enter here even though they were hearing me fall around. I vomited something in my bathroom.
They gave me the second one, The people that gave me are the people working with me. I swallowed another one unknowingly because I never suspected them until when God opened my eyes. They paid them and gave them enough money to make sure they eliminate me. All these plans are from Enugu, my towns people and age grades that are surprised that I can own some things, build some houses, buy house in Lagos. They asked them to go and kill me.”
The actor recently spoke about the happenings in Nigeria saying that the things going on are orchestrated by evil people who do not have the peace and unity of Nigeria at their hearts.
He said:
“Danger everywhere. There is no more love in Nigeria. What we are witnessing is constant attacks, killings everywhere. All these things are the signs of the end time. We should pray for God to have mercy on Nigeria so that all these happenings orchestrated by evil people will come to an end.”

Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has married Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, a year after she made the headlines for a rumoured wedding with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Daily Trust reported that the wedding Fatiha held on Friday, September 18, 2020, at the Maitama Juma’a Mosque in Abuja as confirmed by multiple sources.
The publication added that the event was a private affair as one of the sources disclosed that “very few people were invited to attend the wedding Fatiha because (of) the couple.”
“Those close to them didn’t want to publicize the issue”, the source added.
The report added that Abubakar and Farouq have been dating for “a while” as revealed by the source.
“They have been in a relationship for a while and what happened on Friday has put to rest all the speculations about her relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari,” the source told Daily Trust.
In October 2019, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq was at the centre of a rumoured wedding saga with President Muhammadu Buhari. The rumour, which began and fleshed out on social media, claimed that President Buhari will be getting married to Farouq because the First Lady Aisha Buhari had been away for months.
The alleged wedding ignited conversations on social media and in the pages of some tabloids, while on Twitter the hashtags; #TheWedding, #BUSA19, #AISHA, #Presidentialwedding and several others began trending.
“Apparently, the second wife story is true. What cant be confirmed is the date of the wedding fatiha. This man shouldn’t tempt his Creator. He just recovered from serious ill health and now he wants to add another yarinya! Second Term, Second Wife! Baba o! #SecondTermSecondWife,” Former Special Assistant on Social Media to the former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri tweeted at that time.
The rumoured wedding was further strengthened by a video which showed Aisha Buhari in an angry outburst at the Aso Villa after she returned from London. Mrs Buhari would later confirm to the BBC that the video is old and was recorded by a relative of the president who lives in Aso Rock, sometime in 2018.
Neither the president nor the minister, who was at that time in New York promoting a UN campaign against poverty, said anything about the rumoured marriage.
Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the president, would later debunk the rumour in a chat with Tribune.
“How will anyone expect that the President will be getting married and it will be a secret affair?” Adesina said. “Nigerians like to gist and play banters, as it is another way of relaxation for many, and they have seen the president as a personality that suits their side talks. It is bad, but that is what happens.”
Matt Berninger has shared the official video to his latest solo single ‘One More Second’ – you can watch it below.
The National‘s frontman is set to release his debut solo album ‘Serpentine Prison’ on October 16, and has also previewed the project with its title track as well as ‘Distant Axis’.
Having offered up a third taste of the record earlier this month, Berninger has today (September 23) shared the ‘One More Second’ visuals, in which the musician dances on his own in an illuminated studio space.
The video, directed by Chris Sgroi, combines footage of a Berninger singing the song from behind a classic microphone with shots of him busting moves against a backdrop of colourful projections. At the end of the clip, we see masked crew members enter the set.
“All dance moves property of The Breakfast Club, Footloose, and the holy grail of modern dance films: Flashdance,” Berninger wrote on Twitter. See that post above.
Upon the release of the song, the musician explained: “I wrote ‘One More Second’ with Matt Sheehy (Lost Lander, EL VY) with the intention for it to be a kind of answer to Dolly Parton’s ‘I Will Always Love You’, or sort of the other side of that conversation.
“I just wanted to write one of those classic, simple, desperate love songs that sound great in your car.”
During an interview with NME back in December, Berninger said that he’d been “really prolific” in his songwriting, and had been “writing way more than I ever did” at that time.
“I’ve been editing myself less, and I’ve been less insecure both on stage and in my writing too. I’m writing more, but I don’t know if I’m writing better. I don’t know what to do with it all. I guess I’ll have to make more records.”

Controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu, has stated that he does not regret supporting singer, Cynthia Morgan, because she is born to win like ex-Big Brother Naija star, Tacha.
Cynthia Morgan in an Instagram live video, with Ex-Miss Globe Nigeria, CASSANDRA, had revealed why she disappeared from the music scene despite becoming a household name.
Cynthia Morgan had alleged that Jude Okoye seized her accounts, made her stop using her name as well, and not promote her and does not own rights to the music she produced while still under Northside Inc, losing virtually everything.
However, Cynthia Morgan was dragged on social media after Jude Okoye released copies of the contract between the singer and his record label, Northside Entertainment.
Uche Maduagwu, while reacting to the new development stated this in a post he shared on Instagram on Wednesday.
“I dont regret supporting #Madrina, shes born to win like Tacha. It has never been about the contract she signed in the past and this is where a lot of people are getting it wrong, its about her survival as a woman in a male-dominated #music industry…,” the caption read.
Cynthia Morgan, now Madrina, later wrote an open letter of apology to her former record label boss, Jude Okoye and former manager, Joy Tongo, for blaming her career challenges on them.
She wrote, “I Cynthia Morgan, would like to use this platform to appreciate all the love, well wishes and support from everyone… My heartfelt appreciation once again goes to Jude and Joy. It is the pain speaking, not Cynthia. Thanks for giving me the platform to grow the Cynthia Morgan brand.”
Popular Nigerian video director, Clarence Abiodun Peters, has finally spoken about the death of professional dancer, Love Divine (Kodak), at his residence.
He took to his social media page on Monday morning to give his account on the events surrounding the death of the professional video vixen.
According to him, he was not physically in the same room as Kodak although they were in the same building.
He said it was a few moments after that they called his attention to the scene.
He also stated that no one has been arrested in connection to the dancer’s death.
He said he was only called in by the Police for questioning.
Please read Clarence Peters’ side of the story below:
On the 29th of April 2020, Love Divine Ike (Picture Kodak) was in the dance studio, on the premises of Capital Dreams Pictures, with 5 other team members and myself – 7 people in total.
At about 7:30 pm on the same day, while in another office – a building beside the dance studio, on the same premises, some people who were said to be with Love Divine at the time, rushed in and called my attention to the fact that Love Divine had collapsed.
We immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital, which refused to let us into their premises, let alone admit her. They assumed she was a Covid-19 patient.
We tried, but we were not able to gain entry into a second hospital. We eventually got her to a third hospital where she was pronounced dead 30 minutes after arrival.
I was not physically in the same room as her when the incident occurred, and when I inquired, I was told by those present at the scene that Love Divine, while taking a break from the dance session, was sitting on one of the metal sliding door rails, charging and using her phone plugged to an extension box.
The witnesses didn’t realize anything was wrong until they saw she had laid down, and they noticed smoke coming from her chest area.
She was said to be electrocuted, her phone was found on her chest, with severe burn marks, and the phone’s imprint on her chest.
The witnesses were taken to the Ojodu Police Headquarters straight from the hospital where statements were taken and the phone (which had traces of burnt flesh on it) was deposited.
The following day, the Police conducted an examination of the body and were taken to the scene of the incident for further examination.
The Police are currently carrying out a full-scale investigation into the events that occurred, and an autopsy will be carried out, with the full permission and consent of her family.
Please note that no one has been charged or arrested, by the Police. The witnesses and I willingly made ourselves available to the Police and we have all pledged our full co-operation, through every part of this process. I will be helping out in every possible capacity.
